Five Foods to Prevent Prostate Cancer Diet Matters

Looks like mom was right. Eating your veggies will make you grow up big and strong.

Prostate Cancer, a cancer that forms in tissues of the prostate (a gland in the male reproductive system found below the bladder and in front of the rectum), affects hundreds of thousands of men. In 2009 alone there were 192,280 new cases and 27,360 deaths.

Well there are things you can do to help prevent prostate cancer. We’ve taken a look at five foods to add to your diet to reduce your risk.


broccoliBroccoli which is full of sulphoraphane, a cancer fighting agent that helps rid the body of excess testosterone and reduces the risk of prostate and even other cancers.

As well as broccoli you can also add other cancer fighting veggies such as kale, brussels sprouts, and cauliflower to your list.

TomatoesTomatoes a delicious fruit, or is it a vegetable? Ahh who cares, because it’s filed with Lycopene an antioxidant that has been proven effective in reducing the development of certain cancers including prostate cancer.

With tomatoes it’s best to heat them in order to release as much Lycopene as possible.

GarlicGarlic this aromatic tasty cancer fighting food is one of the most potent anti-cancer foods out there. So rule of thumb-the more the better (contrary as to what people in close proximity may say).

Cook it, pickle it, roast it and consume it!

Tofu From SoySoy once called the food of the future is here now and can help protect you from prostate cancer. In a March, 15 2008 study published in Cancer Research, a journal of the American Association for Cancer Research it was found that in laberatory mice soybeans almost completely prevented the spread of human prostate cancer.

So go soy! Soy beans come in many, many forms so there is something for everyone. You can put soy milk in your morning coffee or cereal, you can toss it in a stir fry with some cancer fighting broccoli and make a stir fry, or you can even just munch on soy nuts. There is no end to how much of this wonder full bean you can consume daily to give your body that edge in fighting an extremely common male cancer.

  1. Well now this is interesting. I never realized how much diet played a role. I mean I guess I new it did but not to this extent. Best part is I don’t even have to change up my diet at all except for the soy never really tried it so I’ll take your advice and start with it in my coffee.
